If you’re located in Scotland and you’re looking to rehome ex-battery hens to a pet-only home, then you’re in luck!

hen rehoming Scotland

Firstly, in the Dumfries area, there’s Homes4Hens – http://www.homes4hens.co.uk
This hen rehoming organisation not only offers pet-only homes to ex-commercial hens (caged, barn and free range) from their HQ in Dumfries, but they also deliver hens to the Falkirk area, the Highlands and the borders.

Just call Homes4Hens to find out where your nearest collection point is. They almost always have hens waiting to go to homes so you won’t have to wait long to covet your brown and ginger treasure!

Wing And a Prayer Rescue

Wing And a Prayer Rescue

Secondly, there’s Wing And A Prayer Rescue – based in Edinburgh, the organisation was set up in 2012 is run by Jackie Balfour, Fi Reekie, Jean Dow and Kim Atherton and a team of volunteers. The organisation also has a rehoming team based in Kelty, Fife and are constantly rehoming throughout the year. Contact Wing And A Prayer rescue onย wingandaprayerrescue@hotmail.co.ukย or via their Facebook page:ย http://www.facebook.com/WingAndAPrayerRescue

These Scottish ex-commercial hen rehoming organisations rely solely on donations and fundraising to operate – their daily running costs include feed, bedding and medication, and they also have to cover the cost of transport from taking the hens from farm to freedom. Please check each organisation’s Ts and Cs for more information about their rehoming policies.

Have moved to a rural property with lots of land. Have an outbuilding which we want to convert to a shelter for chickens and will be building a massive outdoor run. Want chickens as pets primarily but would love to use their eggs as I am a cake maker and like to use organic ingredients. Can you let me know the availability. As the weather is turning we probably won’t be ready until the spring but in the meantime any help/advice you can give would be great. Both my grandfather and father kept chickens..

Hi in this time of covid we are looking to rehome some chickens. We live in Sutherland and can’t travel far due to car issues. Ideally we would like to rehome ex battery hens.
We have rescued before but sadly our wee flock is diminishing and we need to try to get some more feathered friends.
If you know of any chickens who need a loving home please let me know.
