toms

Rich decided to make a cheese and tomato sandwich using my homegrown toms. He was a bit disappointed last year - they’d grown fast and the plants were leggy and the result seemed to be fairly watery, tasteless tomatoes. We don’t know if the lack of flavour was down to our tomato variety Cristal F1, or the way they’d grown triffid-like at a million miles per hour.

But this year my tomatoes have received a firm thumbs up. Yep, the freebie tomatoes that I sowed from the Gardener’s World seeds (it was the packet with lettuce and toms I think?) have been very well received and Rich is now willing the remaining green glut to ripen.

Good!

NB: I have put this post under the thread of veg - technically it should be just fruit but somehow it just doesn’t seem right. So I opted for both.

  1. Look at those tomatoes! damn fine specimens!! We had a poor crop last year, as we were complete novices and thought that more foliage meant better toms. This year, we are more in control, and have had a couple of weeks worth of meals, with a few more to go! hurrah! Cat x
